Built of the finest of materials, Green
Lawn Abbey is still
structurally sound and inherently beautiful. This majestic and awe
inspiring monument, however, is feeling the effects of time and an
appalling amount of vandalism. Preservation and restoration are
required now before historic elements of the building are
totally lost. These elements include 60 stained glass windows by the
Rossbach Art Glass Studio (prominent artisans operating in Columbus
until 1937) and plaster ceilings with delicate low-profile roping of
lilies around the perimeter.
Two prominent
architects with significant experience in the restoration of
neoclassical buildings have come forward to help. Donating their time
and expertise they have formulated a list of needs and a plan of
implementation. We are currently in Phase I of their plan - Secure
and Stabilize the building. This will buy us some time to raise
the capital required to fully restore the building.
